4 Don'ts to prevent drowning on Loy Krathong Day

On Loy Krathong Day, every province in Thailand hosts traditional activities, which may pose a risk of drowning, especially for children. Therefore, parents should not let their children roam freely and should adhere to the "4 Don'ts" principle to prevent drowning on Loy Krathong Day.

  • Don't Drink : Do not consume alcohol.
  • Don't Get Too Close : Avoid standing too close to the edge of ponds or water bodies.
  • Don't Collect : Do not enter the water to collect money from krathongs.
  • Don't Bend Over : Do not lean over too much when releasing krathongs.

Parents should closely supervise their children and keep a watchful eye to ensure they don't wander off and stay safe, especially near water sources. Children under 5 years of age should be within arm's reach and should not be allowed to float krathongs on their own, even if they are on the shore, as they may slip or slide. It is also advisable not to let children reach into the water to collect krathong money as they may be at risk of drowning. For adults, it's important to avoid consuming alcohol and to wear life jackets when traveling by boat.
