Birth Control implant? Things to Know & Be Aware of
#Birth control implant or the contraceptive implant is a temporary method of contraception that entails implanting a tiny hormonal tube under the skin in the upper arm of around 3 cm long. The lifespan and effectiveness of the implant can vary between 3-5 years.
After the hormonal tube is put in, the contraceptive implant can assist prevent pregnancy. Contraceptive implants are one of the most effective forms of preventing pregnancy. The likelihood of failure resulting in pregnancy is less than 0.05-0.1% meaning that 1 in 1,000 people using the birth control implant will become pregnant in a year. Side effects associated with contraceptive implants include:
- Irregular menstrual bleeding, especially in the early stage, but the menstruation will eventually diminish and end throughout the implantation
- Some people may experience more frequent and longer periods (rarely found)
- You may have abdominal pain and menstrual cramps during the first 2-3 months
- There may be a pain in the arm where the contraceptive stick was put in the early stages
- The site of the stick insertion may become irritated or scarred
- Mood swings, depression
- Breast pain or soreness
- Dizziness
- Some individuals may gain weight
- Blemishes, acne
- Vaginitis and vaginal dryness
- Deep vein thrombosis may occur
- If a pregnancy does occur, the chances of an ectopic pregnancy increase
#Precaution Contraception effectiveness is lowered when combined with certain antibiotics. (Do not use in people with breast cancer, severe liver disease and venous thromboembolism)
