Bleeding while 'flossing', should I see a dentist?

Scurvy is where the blood flows from the gums and edges of the teeth. This can happen for many reasons, such as gingivitis, gum disease, brushing too hard, not flossing properly, or it could be a symptom of other health problems. Today, we have the main causes of scurvy for everyone.

  • The formation of plaque along the gum line, which can cause the gums to become inflamed until the gums swell and scurvy.
  • Infections within the gums or teeth, such as periodontal disease, which are caused by chronic gingivitis and aggravated by a bacterial infection.
  • Lack of nutrients such as vitamin C and vitamin K can lead to scurvy that weakens the body.
  • Brush your teeth too hard or floss incorrectly. Use of anticoagulants such as warfarin, aspirin, and heparin
  • Low platelets with diseases that are often at risk of low platelets, such as dengue fever, bone marrow atrophy

Bleeding scurvy when first flossing between the teeth is common and as long as the bleeding stops quickly it's usually not a problem. However, if possible, you should have your dentist or dental professional examine your mouth for gum or periodontal problems in order to maintain a healthy mouth and teeth.
