Check! Are you at risk of developing a hernia?

A hernia occurs when an organ or part of an internal abdominal organ, such as the intestines, stomach, or abdominal fat, pushes through a weakened muscle or tissue wall, creating an abnormal opening. This condition can occur anywhere in the abdominal area, from above the navel down to the groin. Check if you are at risk of developing a hernia!

  •  Overweight individualsv
  • Regularly lifting heavy objects
  • Enlarged prostate requiring frequent straining to urinate
  • Chronic coughing, such as in emphysema
  • Excess fluid accumulation in the abdomen
  • Chronic constipation with frequent straining
  • Pregnant women

Most hernia patients notice a bulging lump that becomes more apparent when standing, walking, exercising, or coughing. In some cases, the hernia may retract on its own while lying down or can be gently pushed back into place. However, in more severe cases, the hernia may become trapped, leading to a medical emergency known as an incarcerated hernia, which requires immediate surgical intervention. Some patients do not have a visible lump but experience acid reflux symptoms, which could indicate a hiatal hernia.
