Check your signals! Are you just forgetful or suffering from Alzheimer's disease?

Many people may have experienced "occasional forgetfulness," such as forgetting their phone, keys, or what they were about to say. Sometimes, it happens so often that it becomes normal. It's not uncommon for people to forget occasionally, but which signs indicate simple forgetfulness and which ones suggest a more serious condition like Alzheimer's disease? Today, we have some tips to help you check the warning signs of "Alzheimer's disease."

Check the warning signs of Alzheimer's disease :
  • Starting to have episodes of repeated forgetfulness, asking the same questions frequently.
  • Displaying disorientation, confusion about time.
  • Exhibiting changes in behavior and mood, becoming easily sad, irritable, or agitated.
  • Often speaking incoherently, with mistakes in word order or vocabulary compared to before.
  • Decreased cognitive abilities, finding it difficult to think about complex matters or solve problems, despite being able to do so previously.
  • Frequently misplacing items without realizing it, like putting a mobile phone in the refrigerator or clothes in the wrong place.
  • Struggling with tasks that involve planning or organization, even with simple tasks.
  • Undergoing a personality change, often avoiding social interactions and exhibiting altered behaviors, such as sudden smiling or laughing without apparent reason.

How to take care of yourself to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease :
  • Play brain-training games to keep your mind active.
  • Exercise regularly, as an increased heart rate between 60-85% of your maximum heart rate helps keep your body strong.
  • Eat a nutritious and beneficial diet, including products like blueberries, brown rice, whole grains, red eggs, and green leafy vegetables. Avoid processed foods high in sodium, excessive sugar, and saturated fats to reduce the risk of stroke, which can negatively impact brain cells and contribute to Alzheimer's disease.
  • Quit smoking and limit alcohol consumption, as these factors can contribute to various diseases and accelerate the onset of Alzheimer's disease.

Forgetfulness can happen to people of all genders and ages, sometimes due to multiple factors occurring simultaneously, like lack of focus, insufficient sleep, or even medication. These factors can result in occasional forgetfulness, such as forgetting some things from time to time. However, if you experience frequent forgetfulness, forget recent events soon after they occur, or notice significant changes in your memory and cognitive abilities, it could be a sign of dementia or Alzheimer's disease. If you observe any abnormal symptoms, it's essential to consult a healthcare professional promptly to identify the cause and seek timely treatment.
