Do normal people need to use "artificial tears"?
"Artificial Tears" is a type of eye drop medication that helps increase moisture in our eyes. It can be compared to lubricating oil, which is essential for all types of engines, including the human eye that needs to blink 10-15 times per minute to keep the eyes lubricated.

The benefits of artificial tears

  • Relieves Dry Eye Syndrome: People with dry eye syndrome have reduced tear production, causing discomfort in the eyes. The use of artificial tears can help alleviate eye irritation and reduce dry eye symptoms.
  • Provides Moisture to the Eyes: Individuals with low tear production or rapid tear evaporation, often due to prolonged screen time, may experience eye irritation and fatigue.
  • Reduces Eye Irritation: Eye irritation can occur due to various factors such as dust particles or foreign substances entering the eyes, eye allergies, or dry eyes. The use of artificial tears can help flush out foreign substances or allergens and soothe the eyes.
  • Lubricates the Eyes after Surgery: After eye surgery or corneal procedures, temporary dry eye symptoms can occur frequently. Artificial tears can be used to provide moisture, reduce eye irritation, and minimize post-surgical discomfort.

Precautions for using artificial tears:

  • Follow the instructions for each type of artificial tears. For daily use artificial tears, do not exceed 12-24 hours after opening, while monthly use artificial tears should not be used for more than 1 month after opening.

  • When applying artificial tears, be careful not to let the tip of the dropper touch your eye or eyelashes to prevent infection and eye irritation.
  • Monitor yourself periodically for any abnormal symptoms such as irritation, increased dryness of the eyes. If you experience such symptoms, it is recommended to consult an ophthalmologist to identify the cause and determine the next steps for treatment.

"Artificial Tears" have similar components to natural tears and can be used by the general population to increase moisture and alleviate various eye irritations. There are different types of artificial tears available, each with different storage methods and suitable for different usage scenarios. If any abnormal symptoms occur while using artificial tears, it is recommended to discontinue use and consult a doctor promptly.
