What are dentures

How many types of dentures

Dentures can be divided into two types.

1. Removable dentures can be divided into 2 types.

  •  Full mouth removable dentures: For patients with all missing teeth, both upper jaw and lower jaw, full mouth removable dentures are required. It looks like a plastic base denture or has a metal frame reinforced at the base of the denture to increase strength. It generally takes about 4 times to do.
  • Partial removable dentures: suitable for patients who have lost some teeth but still have permanent teeth left, divided into 2 types: acrylic base and metal base. Acrylic base is cheap. The teeth can be filled, but they will be bigger and thicker and break easily. The metal base will be stronger than some additionally. Nowadays, there are tooth-colored hooks and flexible base dentures. which is made of polymer material, flexible, unbreakable, but the disadvantage is can't fill teeth.
2. Fixed dentures: For those who do not want to remove the dentures in-out. which are as natural as real teeth, there are 2 types
  • Dental Bridges: Suitable for positions where dental implants cannot be placed. Because there is a disadvantage that it is necessary to grind the adjacent dentin.
  • Dental Implants: Functional and natural. There is no need to grind the adjacent dentin.

Which denture to choose

Choosing to use dentures should be selected to suit the patient's oral teeth.

  • If the patient wants to use only a few dentures or still has a lot of permanent teeth left. Implants or removable partial dentures are recommended. If the patient wants to make dentures only 1-2 teeth, they can make flexible base dentures for more comfortable use.
  • If the patient has no teeth, there are only a few teeth left in the mouth or the remaining teeth are no longer healthy. It is recommended to remove the teeth and choose to use removable dentures for the whole mouth or full mouth removable dentures that are fixed on the implants for better use.

  • Efficiency in chewing food is lower than other types of dentures.
  • There may be food scraps stuck under the dentures.
  • Hook-related tires may deteriorate over time. This will cause irritability when chewing food.

Disadvantages of wearing fixed dentures

  • There is a price that is quite expensive
  • Cavities can occur under the crown If cleaning is not good
